I am a grower. Now, you may be wondering what that means. I must mean a grower of plants in the horticultural field, you would think at least. But that is not where it starts or where it ends. Growing has been a journey throughout my entire career path.That path began in the sales vocation selling everything from newspapers, blue jeans, tanning memberships, automobiles to singing fish and more. I stepped from retail to wholesale to retail and back to wholesale. During that journey, I was a grower of sales. And I was good at it.Next, the path directed me to management. During the journey through management, I was a grower of business. I believe it was this stage on the path where I found my perfect match, a part of my destiny. This is where I found the most success. My greatest passion was taking a company from nothing to something.All journeys tend to have their surprises and that's not different than my own. That surprise was when the path crossed the horticultural field. Please note, I had no formal training and/or education beyond my own self-education in my personal garden. It was said that I was pretty good at gardening and that information reached the company at where I'm currently employed. It was there at which the path became many small trails. The first trail guided me through what I thought was simple watering of plants. I found that to be anything but simple. Long story short, I moved from watering to assistant grower and then head grower in roughly 4 years. I wasn't a gifted grower, but I was effective. I ran growing as I would a business. On this trail, I was a grower of plants.Which leads me to the path I'm on now. And an irony it is. I recently promoted my assistant grower the the head grower position(very proud of her I was) and started on the path of Director of Business Development. On that path, I am back to being a grower of business. My first love. So far that path looks to be very challenging, yet beautiful.
