I am a passionate and driven chemist who constantly seeks to deepen my understanding of the chemical and physical world around me. I actively engage with colleagues to develop a working consensus on complex issues within the field of chemistry. I hold both a Ph.D. and an integrated master's degree, underscored by my CLAS award for contributions to glycomics during my graduate work. My specialties include biological, organic, analytical, and surface chemistry, which reflect my general love of the discipline.Currently, I serve as a Chemist II, focusing on performing PFAS isolation and using analytical chemistry to quantify their presence within the eniviroment. In this role, I assist in establishing the State of Maine's PFAS laboratory to address the urgent need for PFAS testing in water, food, and blood serum monitoring.I received my Ph.D. from the University of Maine Orono (Class of 2023), where my primary research focus was on the applications of glycans. I have published research in overlapping areas of organic, inorganic, analytical, and surface chemistry. Throughout my research, I have successfully optimized numerous chemical processes, reducing the reliance on chromatographic purification to accelerate the isolation of complex natural products and the synthesis of organic compounds. Additionally, I have designed and developed novel processes for functionalizing materials like glass slides or silica gel to facilitate the isolation and study of derivatized compounds for ligand based assay development. My expertise further extends and encompasses various quantification techniques associated with the synthesis or isolation of diverse compounds such as oligonucleotides, peptides, glycans (carbohydrates), and organic molecules. Alongside my research responsibilities, I have effectively managed day-to-day laboratory operations, including instrument repair, waste management, and providing assistance to other researchers, including bachelor's, master's, and fellow PhD students in their respective projects. My ultimate career goals revolve around conducting scientific research to advance our understanding of chemistry and inspiring and motivating colleagues in the scientific community to foster an environment of collaboration and learning. Personally, I am committed to continuous improvement, diversifying my skill set within the field of chemistry, and striving for excellence in all aspects of life.
