Robert Knox is Senior Managing Director of Cornerstone Equity Investors, L.L.C., a private equity firm which he founded. The investment principals of Cornerstone have funded over 120 companies through middle market buyouts and expansion financings since 1984. Cornerstone has expertise in health care services and products, business services, technology-related manufacturing, and consumer products. Cornerstone and its predecessor firm have provided financing to many successful companies including Dell Computer, Health Management Associates, Linear Technology, Micron Technology, Centurion, Team Health Corporation, Comdata and Sunglass Hut.Prior to the formation of Cornerstone Equity Investors, Mr. Knox was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Equity Investors, Inc., the private equity subsidiary of Prudential Financial. Mr. Knox designed and executed the initial Alternative Asset investment strategy at Prudential and subsequently co-founded Prudential Equity Investors, the predecessor to Cornerstone. During this time, Prudential became one of the largest institutional investors in both private equity funds and direct private equity investments.Mr. Knox has a long history and expertise in the healthcare sector as well as broad experience in technology and consumer product companies. During his investment career, Mr. Knox has served on the Boards of more than 25 private and public companies. He was the lead independent director of Health Management Associates (NYSE) prior to its acquisition by Community Health Systems.Mr. Knox graduated from Boston University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and earned an MBA from Boston University in 1975. He received an Honorary Degree from Boston University in 2017 and delivered the commencement address at the Questrom School of Business. He has been a trustee of Boston University for 20 years and served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2008 -2016.
