I am honored to serve as the CEO of Columbia Southern Education Group, the parent company of Columbia Southern University and Waldorf University. For 13 years, 2005-2018, I had the privilege to be president of Columbia Southern University, an online university headquartered in Orange Beach, Alabama. My father Dr. Robert Mayes Sr. founded CSU in 1993 and it has since evolved to encompass students from all 50 states and around the world. Currently, CSU has an active student body of nearly 30,000 students supported by more than 1,000 faculty and staff.During my time at CSU, I have had direct experience in many areas of online university operations including key roles in strategy development, accounting, finance, information technology, online course development, outcomes assessment, creation of policies and procedures, accreditation efforts and more. In my role as president, I worked closely with leadership to accomplish the goals, objectives and strategies of the university and ensure that we are abiding by our key strategic anchors. Key anchors of CSU’s model is to provide exceptional service, affordable tuition and flexibility in the design of programs and policies. I also played an integral role in the acquisition of Waldorf University (previously Waldorf College) in Forest City, Iowa in 2010. This experience included achieving approvals from the U.S. Department of Education and the Higher Learning Commission.I am a board member of the Alabama Association of Private Colleges and Schools and chairman of the board of directors for South Baldwin Christian Academy. I serve as a trustee for both Columbia Southern University and Waldorf University. I previously served eight years on the board of the Distance Education Accrediting Commission Board of Directors and served on its executive, finance and nominating committees at different points during my service.
