During my 30 years as a professional storyteller and creative executive, I’ve had the privilege to work with some of the biggest names in television and technology. An Emmy award–winning writer/producer during the 1980s and 1990s, my experience ranges from prime-time TV shows to global technology campaigns to C-level thought leadership. In television, you only have a few seconds to pique the viewer’s interest – and keep them from changing channels. During my years as a television writer/producer, I learned that storytelling is a powerful way to connect with viewers and turn them into loyal fans. But it was never a one-man show. Our success was based on building the right team of creative and production experts. In 1994, I brought this art of storytelling and team building to the technology industry when I started the McLellan Writing Team. At the time, the high-tech industry was just beginning to define the innovations that would change the world forever. The challenge for these technology companies was how to strike the right balance between powerful storytelling and technology expertise. It seems that TV viewers and technology decision makers have a lot in common – they both want to be told a great story. This starts with meaningful content – telling the right story at the right place and the right time in the buyer’s journey. Over the past three decades, our writing team has supported many technology leaders, such as Hitachi, Oracle, Dell Technologies, Cisco and Verizon, in telling powerful stories.
