I am a senior marketing and development professional with over 40 years experience.With my wife, I co-own a specialty retail store, The Yarn Patch, in downtown Crossville, and handle online sales and general marketing. My primary employment is as the director of communications and development for the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, a 501(c)(3) devoted to teaching critical thinking skills to our nation's youth. The job ties in to a film I exec produced, "Brooklyn Castle"​ which played theatrically then aired on PBS in October 2013, and 2 years as Marketing Director of the US Chess Federation. Within the NSCF role, I am also the Program Director for the Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess where we offer direct instruction, train teachers and community leaders in the Broward County, FL to teach chess, as well as provide services for at-risk and juvenile justice initiatives. I've co-authored a book, "Great Moves: Learning Chess Through History", and edited a new edition of "Best Lessons of a Chess Coach," both published by Mongoose Press. An exciting past project was coordinating tours for Ugandan chess star Phiona Mutesi and her coach Robert Katende, who, over the course of 3 trips to the USA, visited schools, chess programs, churches and foundations to promote the benefits of scholastic chess and to raise money for a new chess academy in Kampala. ("The Queen of Katwe"​ has since become a Disney motion picture.)As a freelancer, I write business plans and marketing plans and provide implementation and support for small to medium-sized businesses and non-profits. I have helped clients raise over $25 million by writing great business plans and marketing programs. My experience is diverse ranging from fashion and cosmetics to specialty beverage, consumer goods, mining, oil & gas and health care.I have broad experience in art direction, particularly in 3D lenticular production, and have created products for both retail and Fortune 500 promotions as well as work for the major studios.My background includes extensive work in music management and promotion; I have also produced radio and television programs, worked in publishing, advertising, product creation and licensing.Specialties: Operations, marketing, public relations, writing, event management.
