I retired my full-time practice of law in November 2015 as an attorney with the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania. I began there in September 1990 and became Managing Attorney of the Philadelphia Office of our legal team from 1993 until my retirement. I specialized in institutionaI litigation against the many large state-operated mental health and developmental disability institutions in Pennsylvania as well as large-scale litigation on behalf of inmates with disabilities in state correctional institutions. Prior to that position, I was managing attorney of the New Jersey Division of Advocacy for the Developmentally Disabled from 1988 until 1990 where I did similar work. I have been a public interest lawyer for over 40 years, the first 10 as a legal services attorney, specializing in Social Security Disability and SSI matters. I also litigated a number of prisoners' rights cases against county and municipal correctional facilities in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania during my years as a legal services attorney as well as being a public defender in Trenton, N.J. I am interested in consulting work in disability-related matters, both litigation and policy as well as on behalf of prisoners, especially those with disabilities. I was appointed to a three year term on the New York State Independent Living Council (NYSILC) beginning January 2016. I was re-appointed to a second three year term in 2019. I was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Finger Lakes Independence Center (FLIC) in April 2016 for a two year term. I was elected President of the FLIC Board in April 2018. I was former chair and I am currently vice-chair of the board of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, an advocacy and litigation non-profit organization fighting environmental degradation throughout the Delaware River Watershed. I am also on the Steering Committee of Cayuga Lake Environmental Action Now (CLEAN) as well as a Guardian of the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) and the liaison to Senator Charles Schumer's Binghamton District Office for CCL.
