Supervise a group of employees in the Operations Department such as control room operators, crane operators, equipment operators, utility operators, auxiliary operators, tipping floor operators, scale operators and labourers. This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; approving time sheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues• Oversee the safe, environmentally compliant and efficient operation of the facility on a rotating shift basis.• Monitor and locally operate, as necessary the boilers, flue gas treatment, water treatment, turbine/generator, switchgear and other auxiliary plant systems.• Tour all areas of the plant and monitor the activities of the assigned operating staff.• During emergency or unusual situations, the shift supervisor shall direct or if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions as well as coordinate the activities of all personnel involved.• Approve all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with facility procedures.• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly safety meetings for shift operators.• Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Facility/Department Manager

Monitor, adjust, control and operate two high pressure boilers, flue gas treatment systems, a turbine generator and auxiliaries from a central control room location by performing the following duties personally.• To act as step-up shift supervisor when required.• Observe, adjust, correct and operate all power plant machinery from the central control system to ensure the facility is operated in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner. • Instruct Equipment, Crane, Utility and Auxiliary Operators in job related duties pertaining to safety and boiler house operating practices. • Monitor plant functions which impact the overall production and operation of the machinery. • Maintain all assigned logs and records legibly and in detail. • Maintain housekeeping in the control room. • Assist the Shift Supervisor in maintaining an acute awareness of safety, environmental and operational related issues during an assigned shift. • Perform other duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor. • Assist Shift Supervisor in approving all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with facility procedures.• Assist Shift Supervisor in training of Operators as required.• Maintaining operational/monthly/yearly reports as required.
