Lab Technician Ii

Current

Boise, Idaho Area

I analyze the gases Norco sells for concentrations and impurities, using a variety of equipment, including FTIR, Gas Chromatography, Process equipment, Electrochemical Cells, and Paramagnetic Analyzer. These gases go into a wide variety of applications, including Medical, Industrial and Calibration applications.

Jul 2016 - Present

Bonding Engineer

Boise, Idaho Area

I developed the process for Rekluse to bond their friction materials to the discs, found vendors for the needed materials and equipment, trained the production team and dealt with any customer issues. This new capability made it possible for Rekluse to respond faster to the marketplace. I also helped them get into the Adventure bike market, and also Harley-Davidson.

Feb 2012 - Apr 2015

Engineer

Boise, Idaho Area

* I came to Micron to work on the Field Emission Display project in 1993. This entailed developing new processes, materials, and equipment for a product that had little prior art available. The video link shows how the technology that we developed is now maturing into an awesome product.* In 1999, this project was sold to Pixtech. At that time I moved to Micron's Wet Process group, where I sustained the processes and equipment for the Wet Etch and Dry Etch processes.* In 2002, I was asked to help bring up Micron's MP Mask Shop. My responsibilities were new wet etch and clean technology and the photoresist application processes.* In 2005, I moved to Micron's Diffusion group and sustained the diffusion equipment and processes.

1993 - 2006 ~13 yrs

Engineer

Philips Display Components

My first two years with Philips, I was the phosphor screen engineer for all 5 of their screening lines. I wrote specifications, improved equipment, and was responsible for a multi-million dollar inventory of phosphor. After that, I was promoted to department manager for the screening and aluminizing departments, with 16 direct and approx. 240 indirect reports. In this union environment, I helped establish self directed work teams, which gave much more responsibility to the workers and eliminated a layer of management.

May 1988 - May 1993

Process Engineer

Dunmore,Pa

I worked in the phosphor screen department as a process engineer. This department deposited and patterned the green, blue and red phosphors on the inside of the faceplate of the cathode ray tube; TV. It was a blend of wet processing, lithography and thermal processing that had to be perfect enough so the human eye could not see any imperfections in the picture. It was quite amazing that this could be done with this technology. While there, RCA brought in automation that was designed and built by Hitachi. This was a very extensive project, and reduced the manpower requirements from 21 to 3 people per shift. It took us about 6 months to work out all the bugs. I supervised 3 shift technicians.

May 1982 - May 1986

Process Engineer

Camarillo, Ca

I was responsible for silicon crystal growing department. Established furnace setups. I was point contact with graphite, quartz, inert gas and furnace vendors. Dealt with quality issues. Wrote specifications.

May 1983 - May 1984

Process Engineer

Fairchild Semiconductors

Healdsburg, Ca

This was my first job after graduating from Villanova University. I worked in the front end processes there. I learned to grow zero dislocation P+ and N- silicon crystals with the Czochralski process. That was interesting, and the only time I worked with several different dopants. We performed dry and wet oxidation processes, mainly to protect the wafers once we were done processing them. I also worked on chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) and wafer lapping, which is a process that makes the wafers very flat. My one project there was to develop a caustic etch process, which I did, and they successfully used to process wafers.
