Promoted to General manager after 1 year as Operations manager. Having taken the next step on the ladder I am now the P&L account holder for the site with overall control in the mission here in Liberia working with the UN. Through hard work and some luck with other staff moving on I am feeling confident that the next 12 months will provide its own set off challenges and look forward to meeting them with the help and support of my team here.

Promoted to Operations manager in July 2015 was a natural progression from my post as Base services and transport manager. All the hard work and determination over the last 18 months while the country went through the Ebola crisis has paid off. During this time we managed to keep our workforce and their families safe, adopting stringent preventative measures and weekly briefings. Also we managed to keep our 98% delivery on time performance throughout the period, working through curfews and port and border closures. Then came the wet season ...which is always a challenge. Sept 2014 also brought more good news with winning the UNMIL contract again for another 3 yrs. The last 2 yrs have been very hard, mentally and physically but the rewards are worth it.

Monrovia Liberia

Reporting to the site Ops mgr working within United Nations mission in Liberia. Duties include overseeing all site maintenance including generators, building works and utilities. Also overseeing all areas of transport, vehicle maintenance and manpower. Delivering multi temp deliveries to 55 delivery points all over Liberia to UN detachments using a fleet of 14 vehicles by way of weekly delivery plan. Duties also include keeping within budgets for site and vehicle maintenance and also subcontractors, control of fuel and container charges and Movements in and out of the port of Monrovia with products coming from all over the world.Although the Liberia operation is quite small it’s very time consuming due to the restrictions of local weather and road conditions it is very challenging.Other duties are as fire Marshal and First aid, also stand in for Site Ops manager and General Manager in their absence.

Reporting to the Depot general manager working within the chilled distribution FMGC chilled network within the UK. Duties include driver weekly rotas, fuel ordering, vehicle maintenance schedules, accident reporting and other normal depot related duties. Control of sub-contractors and agency booking both driver and chilled warehouse for manning levels. Constant analysis of pallet movements to reduce mileage and improve delivery profiles, also monitoring trunking volume between chilled depots to maximise efficiency.

Reporting to the National planning manager. I am working within a central transport planning office Main responsibilities are planning daily collections/deliveries into over 2,000 delivery points including blue chip companies such as Tesco, Asda, Morrison’s and many different retailers nationwide. Having 6 depots enables this to be done through a chilled trunking network and cross docking operation in a cost effective and timely efficient manner without breaking the cool chain. Dealing with supplier issues, subcontractors and delivery points means having the ability to communicate at all levels. I am often required to act up to department manager when necessary and am responsible for the training of new members of staff on the computer programmes that we use.

While in Dubai I reported to the Managing Director. I was responsible for the day to day running of the new site being constructed in Dubai. Which was being used for the storage of up to 500 containers? Along with assisting the present warehouse manager with a new project and eventually the move to the new warehouse.Managing a small number of staff including Crane drivers, Riggers, Welders and HGV drivers. Organising all container movements from 5 sites, in and around the Dubai area including Jebil Ali and Port Rashid sea ports. Keeping detailed lists of empty container movements from the ports to our sites, where they were converted to accommodation, toilet and shower, kitchens and laundry units. After the conversation was complete they were stored awaiting onward shipment via road and sea.In Baghdad I reported to the Operations manager, I was responsible for the smooth day to day running of both logistics and base services departments. The logistics dept covered all company transport movements by land and air into and throughout Iraq. I oversaw the supervision of approximately 130 staff, fleet management of 150 various types of vehicles including crane, heavy equipment, buses and 4x4's. I liaised with Iraqi customs officials and cargo personnel to ensure the efficient and safe unloading of up to 140 tons of air freight per week and its distribution to company sites for use on US military contracts.

I joined this company that specialised in temperature controlled distribution throughout the UK, as a driver and quickly progressed to shift manager, then night shift operations manager, finally reaching planning manager in 2003.
