I am currently engaged in conducting system safety assessments (including Functional Hazard Analysis and Zonal Hazard Analysis) for speculative systems on a number of technology demonstrator programmes known as Tempest. Whilst the tasking constraints were the same as described above, the resource pool was limited and as such I managed an interface with General Systems to ensure that the source of the support data is transparent to the Customer. In addition, I took on some of the In Service Support Team role which enables me to manage the Customer facing element into and out of the business. This enabled Flight Systems to fast track tasks while minimising the number of interfacing departments and personnel. This approach also required Flight Systems to integrate responses from different departments to ensure consistent outputs. As part of the above duty, I also advised on implementing continuous improvement strategies and processes, such that we aim to never receive the same enquiry twice. This primarily has involved providing updated source data to improve data modules and obtaining supplier inputs to allow update to supplier data modules. One of the checks that Flight Systems carry out, is to ensure that we liaise with the General Systems specialists to determine whether any new equipment have recently been approved for use and then to ensure that the support solution is in place to allow the customer to use the item. In the early days of the process improvement, there were a number of omissions, however, the process eventually become effective and improvements were made. Show less

Working as part of a team, I was involved in re-starting the programme, overcoming the design difficulties and eventually getting the production programme back on track.Following the successful qualification of the POM, I was asked to examine and propose a future strategy for the departmental handling of In-Service issues. At the time, the department performed primarily development work, but was required to move into a Customer focussed in-service environment as more aircraft are deployed to squadrons. Current assignments include the deletion of the Engine Intake De-Icing System which involves the definition of the icing regime of Tornado and computer modelling of the intake during icing conditions. Further testing is dependant on the modelling and will culminate in a flight trial.Some of the fuel system tasks have included query answering regarding fuel system function, introduction of alternatives to obsolete components and life extension of out of life components. Part of this activity involved the calculation of predicted system performance and the confirmation of the predictions by rig testing. The calculation involved computer modelling of the generation part of the system as well as determining the effectiveness of the distribution system. The rig testing aspects involved writing the request for test, the test procedure and the assessment of the results. The production of the final test report and clearance documentation was also required in this role.In addition, I also ran the query answering service for Tornado ECS group. This involved formulating a technical response to queries from the Royal Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force within short timescales, as well as from customers within the British Aerospace organisation. I ran the Tornado modification procedure for the ECS group and my duties included formalising the modification solution and certification from conception through to implementation. Show less
