After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in January 1967, Mr. Ward entered the United States Air Force Officer Training School program in San Antonio, Texas, receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant on April 19, 1967.Upon completion of Officer Training School, Lt. Ward was assigned to Williams Air Force Base in Arizona to attend the USAF 53 week pilot training program. Lt. Ward received his USAF pilot wings on May 11, 1968. In the following years, Lt/Capt Ward flew various fighter aircraft (F-111, F-100, A-37) including 165 combat missions in the F-100 in Vietnam in 1970. Captain Ward finished his military career at England AFB in Alexandria, Louisiana as an instructor pilot training South Vietnamese students in the A-37 ground attack fighter.After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Ward moved to Mesa, Arizona where he became employed by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County from 1974 to 1978. After leaving the Flood Control District in 1978, Mr. Ward joined the Flood Control Section of the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR). While working at ADWR, Mr. Ward took graduate courses in hydrology, open channel hydraulics, and geotechnical engineering at Arizona State University. Mr. Ward left ADWR as Chief of the Flood Control & Planning Section in 1985 and went into private practice as the manager of the Tempe, Arizona office of Simons, Li & Associates (SLA) in 1985. SLA is a private consulting firm specializing in sediment transport, river mechanics, hydrology, and floodplain hydraulics.In 1987, Mr. Ward left SLA to start his own private practice to continue his specialization in hydrology, sediment transport, flood control, and drainage. Mr. Ward is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Arizona.Since semi-retiring from his engineering practice in 2011, Mr. Ward has embarked on a second part-time career in digital photo artistry. He also enjoys working on the family genealogy and flying high-fidelity combat flight simulations with "Digital Combat Simulator" software.Mr. Ward currently lives in Mesa, Arizona.
