Credit and equity alternative investments and private lending and institutional banking have been my career focal points.As a dealmaker and then co-head of Structured Finance, Debt Capital Markets and Investment Banking at Rand Merchant Bank from 1996 to 2015, my institutional banking career was focused around the return and risk on corporate loans and private lending in various forms. I was also closely involved in RMB’s principal equity and mezzanine investing activities, developing a full appreciation of the different components of the capital structure. Personally and together with specialist teams I was responsible for finding, leading due diligence, investing in, monitoring and exiting senior debt, mezzanine debt and principal equity investments in corporate finance, leverage finance, real estate finance, infrastructure finance, resource finance and aviation finance transactions. I was a member of RMB’s investment and credit committees, as well as the Management Board and Proprietary Board.In 2015 I joined Ashburton Investments as co-head of alternative investments and worked on the design and implementation of uniquely structured corporate loan credit funds. I was also responsible for Ashburton’s investment into the Westport Africa real estate development equity fund and was a member of the Ashburton private equity fund investment committee. These roles refined my interest in credit and equity alternative investing and private lending.In May 2018 I joined Maia Financial to work with the team there in structuring growth capital financing solutions for Australian corporates. A natural progression from that role was then to join Wentworth Williamson Pty Ltd, part of the Monash Private Capital group, as credit fund manager to progress differentiated credit investments suitable for the Stable Income Fund..I am qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK and South Africa and have a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and a Master of Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand, where I was also president of the university rowing club and received my blues for rowing. I was a member of the Council of the University of the Witwatersrand from 2011 to 2018.
