The Industrial PhD combines machine learning techniques and advanced process control strategies for improving quality control of manufacturing machines, especially spray drying plants.

I analysed five different self-learning control algorithm for improving the automatic quality system of spray dryers. The results show that it can be faster to model a spray dryer with the self-tuning algorithms than using manual techniques

In supermarkets, the freezers' evaporation system can flood if there is too little food/beverages to cool. To counteract this, I used a PID to control the amount of coolant by measuring how much the food was cooled. Additionally, I proposed a self-tuning feature which enables the PID to be tuned to many different kinds and sizes of freezers.
