Direct all aspects of business including strategic direction, board governance, financial stewardship, major donor cultivation, communications and marketing, human resources, and day-to-day management. Spearheaded the merger of three nonprofits to create MountainTrue including re-branding as well as expansion of geographic footprint from one office to four. Volunteered, traveled, and lived in Peru and Ecuador. Created promotional video for Uchu Peruvian Steakhouse (Cusco). Assisted CENPRODIC (NGO in Cusco) in developing marketing materials. Consulted on strategic plan and provided project support for FOER (NGO in Baños, Ecuador). 150 hours of language instruction and homeschooled children.

Directed grantmaking, scholarships, community initiatives, and donor engagement. Managed seven staff, as well as all planning and budgeting for department. Collaborated with donors, other foundations, nonprofits, local governments, and businesses for collective impact on critical community issues. Oversaw eleven grant programs and the distribution of $2-$3 million annually.• Created and led the Mountain Landscapes Initiative, a regional collaborative of public/private stakeholders to address land use planning in western North Carolina. Raised over $500,000, engaged more than 1,000 people, and created a Toolkit of best practices to guide public officials, developers, and private land owners. Winner of three awards including the Marvin Collins Outstanding Planning Award given by the NC Chapter of the American Planning Association.• Founding member and past chairman of Western North Carolina Nonprofit Pathways, a regional funders collaborative that strengthens the capacity of nonprofit organizations.• Helped establish Women for Women, a 250 person giving circle that awards $250,000 per year to organizations working to improve the lives of women and girls.• Together with the United Way, designed and implemented the Flood Relief Fund. Raised and distributed over $500,000 to assist flood victims after Hurricanes Ivan and Francis.

Directed program development in Africa including new country start-up. Recruited and managed 22 Country Directors, as well as supervised the Africa Support Center.• Increased number of new affiliates from an average of 15 to 70 per year in Africa, with house completions averaging 20% increase annually.• Led new country development. Identified strategic areas for expansion, met and negotiated with policy makers, and assigned staff. Expanded Habitat’s presence in Africa from 13 to 22 countries.• Built national program capacity by establishing the Africa Support Center and Habitat Academy offering technical expertise and training to national staff. • Created Key Performance Indicators to guide national programs in setting goals, provide improved performance monitoring, and align region-wide direction. • Encouraged program innovation that resulted in lowering overhead expenses, improved loan recovery, increased community ownership, and provided more affordable housing to families in need.

Initiated project start-up of community based house-building programs for low-income rural families by training local communities in project management, community organization, financial accountability, fundraising, conflict resolution, planning and budgeting.

Identified and developed new markets and customers for GIK services and products.
