CurrentEindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a research university specializing in engineering science & technology. With over 125 (assistant, associate and full) professors, almost 235 PhD and EngD students, about 2000 Bachelor students and 1000 Master students, the Mathematics & Computer Science Department (M&CS) is the largest of the nine departments of the TU/e. The department collaborates with a wide range of leading (academic) organizations and companies world-wide (e.g. Philips, ASML, TomTom, Rabobank) in the field of computing, mathematics and data science. Ground-breaking scientific research, high quality education, and societal impact are the three key components of the M&CS strategy. Current focus areas in M&CS are data science/AI, high-tech systems, networks, (cyber) security, and computational science.As Managing Director, I am part of the Department Board of M&CS and responsible for all operations, such as Finance, IT, HR, Communication, Legal, and Facilities.Furthermore, I have various university-wide responsibilities, among others on research security.

CurrentSince the early 1980s, VHTO, the Dutch national expert organization on girls/women and science/technology, has been building up knowledge about the participation of girls and women in the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and experience in deploying this knowledge in areas such as education. Although research has made clear that girls are no less talented than boys in STEM, girls and women are still underrepresented in STEM fields in higher education and on the labor market. This is a loss for girls/women as well as society. Girls/women have equal rights as boys/men to develop their STEM talents, and society would benefit from fully exploiting all available talent. Increasing opportunities for women in these fields is an important step towards realizing greater economic success and equality for women across the board.
