About Rob Van Der Drift

TMC PORTFOLIO - Recent Projects:1. BOSCH Transmission Technology: Automotive vision in production. At Bosch the loop lines suffer from high false reject rates mainly because the darker weld area in the loop is detected as a spot.Medio 2016 the yearly average reject rate was 12%. In 2017 a weld detection method for the vision software has been introduced reducing the yearly average reject rate to an average of 5%.In 2018 after optimization of all production machines and a training course for the technicians, how to readjust the cameras after a crash, the yearly average reject rate was lower than 0.5%. With the current production level, the benefit is 500.000 euros per year.2. PHILIPS Handheld Products: (Engineer lamination)At Handheld diagnostics cartridges are made for medical applications. One of the process steps is the Lamination process. The purposes of this lamination process are to place two beads that are positioned on the laminate correctly in the chambers of the base part and secondly the laminate has to seal the base part to avoid leakage. In 2016 the production yield of the Lamination process dropped below the desired targets. After data mining of the last three production months, it was found that the main problem was caused in the bead offset in the X-direction and that this phenomenon started after a replacement of a direction controller. Data mining also showed a strong dependency of the base part position in the carrier. Therefor it was decided to investigate the manual x-offset machine parameters within a DOE. After implementation of the new parameters derived from this DOE the yield of the Lamination process returned to a normal level. With the current production level, the benefit is 225.000 euros per year.3. Black belt project Amber Pre-grind Yield ImprovementFor the pre-grind process of ceramic Amber wafers the yield of this process-step has always been a major concern. Compared with the YAG wafers the yield of Amber wafers fluctuated from batch to batch and was 10 % lower. As project leader of the black belt project Amber Yield Improvement team, we started collecting waste information over the Amber pre-grind process. One of the other major issues of waste was the slicing of wafers which occurred mainly the first run after dressing. With a DOE we found that this could be eliminated with a small increase of the dressing time. After implementation the Pre-grind Yield of Amber increased to a steady 97.5% similar to YAG production. With a production level of 12 batches a week the benefit is 175.000 euros per year.

Listed skills include Engineering, Project Management, Design Of Experiments, Troubleshooting, and 28 others.
