Our 4-person company developed a highly flexible, multi-microphone beamforming array. Customers licensed our technology to add audio capabilities to their products. I was deeply involved with all aspects of the software, including architecture, algorithms, our build pipeline, and customer support. I was largely responsible for our acoustic echo canceller and spectral noise reduction algorithms.I devised experiments to evaluate beamforming impact on natural language processing, utilizing collected audio data, Python for analysis, and multiple cloud-based speech-to-text APIs.We also developed a custom voice UI frontend, both hardware and firmware, with network interfaces to the backend via streaming audio and MQTT.

- Orchestrated a team of engineers in developing a prototype, multi-line “bonding” DSL modem- Devised a software framework to synchronize operation across eight DSPs: interrupt-based task scheduling, high-bandwidth dataflow, and complex state-machine behavior- Directed software integration and debugging on target hardware- Introduced build and version control processes

- Translated multiple clients' floating point algorithms to fixed point computation- Engineered a task scheduler and A-to-D device driver for a DSP- Wrote and delivered a series of lectures on basic signal processing and the telephone system

PocketScience developed a miniature acoustic coupler technology and dial-up servers to retrieve email over voice-only phones- Spearheaded the PocketMail Development Kit, which facilitated customer integration. Managed contributions from engineering, software contractors, and a technical writer.

- Ported a prioprietary FSK modem from a floating-point TI C30 to a fixed-point TI C6x; rewrote multiple key algorithms

- Developed a real-time, dual-sided V.34 demodulator on an embedded multiprocessor system. Built a miniature telephone network to collect test signals. This product won a $10M+ contract in competitive bidding via superior performance.- Built, tested, and delivered a highly novel, digital microwave beamforming antenna array. This product received intriguing feedback from field users- Camped for four weeks in Trinity National Forest to collecting data for broadband RF experiments- In an era before git and CI/CD, heavily promoted software version control, bug-tracking, and regression testing
