However the principles of the business are not convinced that the senior management team have the desire to grasp the nettle of leadership or ownership.We conducted searching individual interviews with the whole management team, examining motivations and plans in connection with the future. This revealed areas of agreement as well as conflicts and barriers. Following consultation with the principles of the business it became clear that there could be no certainty about whether the future would bring a management buyout, a sale or a merger.Nevertheless a plan for growth and succession would be required. The work could now focus on spurring on the development of the best possible leadership team for any of the eventualities.A ‘cathartic’ workshop was conducted to address issues and conflicts. The conclusion being that the senior managers should formulate the forward vision for the organisation and present it to the wider team. Thereby becoming the owners of the plan and empowering them with the confidence and credibility to drive it forward.

    Northampton College had been dogged by negative perceptions for decades. Driven by the prejudices of selective education. The truth is they add significant value and serve a market that has other wise missed out on opportunities that society has to offer.Following extensive qualitative research we established that individual and associated positive experiences were being outweighed by the prevailing climate of negative experience. More importantly this was as true internally as externally.The answer was pride. Great things about Northampton College were hidden behind ‘the bushel’ of unfounded negative views of Further Education Colleges as a whole.By articulating the desire the College had to help people progress and the way they went about doing that we created a focus for that pride. Presenting that at a staff conference and disseminating in break-out groups through appointed and coached trained facilitators – pride was embedded within the organisation.By injecting the same articulation into on going marketing and communications local perceptions were turned on their head.A strong foundation for a successful £30million pound investment and expansion programme.

    Purple Monster is a niche change management organisation using improvised theatre and illustration to help corporates to overcome barriers to change.A reliance on referrals for work had meant a cycle of boom and bust as winning work consumed the organisation. After one of these phases the decision was made to break the cycle. To seek business from more local small and medium sized businesses and to build a sale pipeline to smooth out the fluctuations in activity and income.But how to market themselves? Previous sales and marketing had been done through sponsors, people who knew how it worked. How to explain to those that have never heard of you?We conducted intimate interviews with all staff. This meant staff felt part of the initiative, it informed our creative work and perhaps most importantly it revealed a few barriers within Purple Monster itself that would need surmounting. Telephone interviews with clients, associates and suppliers were also completed to ensure a 360 degree view.We facilitated a staff workshop to address the barriers and to begin a unified conversation about the special way Purple Monster goes about its work.This gave us the raw materials to distil what would otherwise be termed the mission, vision and values for Purple Monster. This in turn was turned into a story to illustrate how and why they do what they do. And by using that as our creative brief we developed a highly expressive new identity.

    The six schools that make-up DMU were rightly intent on maximising their student numbers. The focus on their own goal meant the benefits of being part of DMU were being overlooked. The opportunity to use money invested in recruitment to benefit from and to bolster the reputation of DMU as a whole were being wasted.Through a series of in-depth interviews with Pro-Vice Chancellors, Deans and key influencers we listened to beliefs, motivations and gripes. We shared a theory for how things could be. The same was done in workshops of representative staff for each of the schools.We discovered there was far more to unite than divide.We found a way to express the valuable difference DMU has to offer the world collectively.We also found a way within that for each of the schools to have their own voice and pursue their respective objectives.It put DMU on the path to better rankings.
