I started with Ogilvy & Mather Direct in Wellington as a junior copywriter, way back in 1986. In 1989, I was transferred to the London office which was a tiny bit bigger than Wellington. From a staff of 11, I found myself among over 250 (which included the legendary Drayton Bird). After two and a half years, I was lured back to New Zealand where I joined the Auckland office of O&M Direct. I worked my way up to Creative Director before switching to the above the line side of the business, under the creative leadership of Bruce Matchett. After some eight or nine years in the world of no coupons or 0800 numbers, I decided to move back to 'my first love and secret weapon'. During this time, Ogilvy & Mather had become Singleton Ogilvy & Mather, then Adworks Ogilvy, then simply Ogilvy. It was at this stage that I became Creative Director of Ogilvy One. After a few years in the big chair, I had a stint freelancing before coming back to agency life with G2. Another merger later, G2 became bcg2 where I am now Creative Director once again.
