At 16 I became an apprentice floor layer and started right at the bottom of the ladder, from sweeping up floors to fetching and carrying materials to finally being let loose with a knife.Learning how to prepare floors properly, to fitting flat laid vinyl and cap and cove, carpet and vinyl tiles, carpet (traditional fit and stuck down) installing nosings and trims to site supervision, staying on the tools for 25 years.Now as a contract manager I can see both sides of the industry.
