At this firm I operate in several different capacities: I represent persons filing for disability benefits under the policies & guidelines of the Social Security Administration while also working with special needs students and their families to assess for any and all educational needs pursuant to Section 504, Section 508, and/or the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). This requires collaborating with all stakeholders in ARD or 504 meetings in order to formulate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that allow students to fully access a public school district’s programs, services, campus, and curriculum. I can also perform onsite accessibility walkthroughs for non-ambulatory students at school campuses using my wheelchair.

Here I use standard Microsoft Office and Adobe applications to modify existing electronic documents in various formats to be accessible to persons with disabilities who use assistive technology for computer and internet access. This requires translating complex tables, charts, and other graphic information into clear and concise written descriptions while maintaining a working knowledge of best practices in accessible document creation and remediation.

Adjudicated SSDI and SSI disability claims in concert with the policies and procedures set forth by the Social Security Administration (SSA).Developed detailed medical and vocational histories with claimants through extensive record reviews and telephone contacts.Researched claimant’s medical records and vocational history to determine eligibility for SSA disability programs.Combined all pertinent information into succinct reports to be affirmed by physical and mental health doctors.

Co-facilitated the launch of the Youth Services Mapping system (YSM), a product of the Ready by 21 Coalition.Tested and retooled the YSM database prior to launch and developed training materials for service providers.Orchestrated training sessions for service providers and city planners throughout the three-month project.administrators and conducted classroom and online training modules for getting started with YSM.

Resolved customers’ email, server, website, and Internet connectivity issues through telephone or email contacts.Helped create, maintain, and build upon a knowledge base by articulating employees’ tacit knowledge.

Evaluated the firm’s social work program and submitted a report with recommendations for program development. Streamlined and integrated the database with processes through the application of knowledge management.Oversaw the creation of a continuum of care for client’s families by connecting with key community agencies.Conducted psychosocial assessments with clients, gathered evidence, and staffed assessment with attorneys. Developed training protocol and selection criteria for future social work interns working at the firm.

Assessed clients to establish a level of intervention considering history and possible mitigating circumstances.Co-facilitated educational groups for DWI clients and life skill groups for Commitment to Change (CTC) clients.Case managed high-level DWI and chemically dependent clients under the supervision of an LCSW.

Collaborated with invested members and agencies in the community to assess, define, and quantify core-medical needs for Ryan White HIV/AIDS funding for the five county EMA surrounding Austin. Researched, compiled, and edited the 2006 Resource Guide for HIV/AIDS Care.

Worked with City of Austin planners on numerous park and preserve restorations, cleanups, and recycling initiatives. Organized and participated park construction and restoration projects around the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Co-researched, developed, and edited the 2004 AmeriCorps’ and Youthworks’ member curriculum.
