The State Affairs team works in close partnership with state/regional primary care associations to advocate for health centres and influence health policy at the state level. I advised members on the impacts of federal health legislation on states and community health centres. I developed messaging and strategy. I monitored legislative and regulatory changes to health policy at the state level, tracked and reported on state health centre funding, state health care reform and patient-centred medical homes initiatives and FQHC Medicaid reimbursement rates. An important part of this work was collecting and promoting best practice so that helpful policies and strategies could be deployed across states. I led an initiative to explore strategies and develop practical solutions to emergency department overcrowding. I partnered with national stakeholder associations, think tanks and government to promote the work of community health centres and advocate for their interests and the interests of their patients.
