After the sale of Up4Sale.com to eBay in 1998, eBay's board of directors had one requirement: That our entrepreneurial team be uprooted from Cincinnati and moved to San Jose. We resisted. Our team stayed in Cincinnati as a cohesive group and performed the entrepreneurial grunt-work required to start and grow numerous new products and lines of business for eBay.

Rediscovering an idea I had written in a notebook 3 years prior, my co-founders and I built Up4Sale.com into the second largest person-to-person auction site on the Internet behind eBay. eBay saw our growth and shared community values and purchased Up4Sale in July 1998, becoming eBay's first acquisition, and their only acquisition prior to their IPO.
