For the last six months of my time at Unite Students, I stepped into the role of customer communications lead. During this time, in addition to my general copywriting duties, I was also responsible for carrying out the customer communications strategy, line managing a team of four and regularly actioning reactive communications plans as required by senior leadership relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the company's only copywriter, I was responsible for managing the brand’s customer-facing blog (and a network of 50+ student writers), providing impactful copy across the website and crafting customer communications for the 70,000+ students living in the company's accommodation.

As editor, I was responsible for editing and managing the entire Adventure Travel brand (it has since rebranded as Wired For Adventure). This included six print editions per year (read nationally by over 50,000 per issue), the magazine's digital content and regular brand partnerships. During my time as editor, the magazine experienced a period of sustained growth and was nominated as a finalist for Consumer Title of the Year in the Travel Media Awards. Duties:• Wrote gear reviews, previews and roundup lists• Covered any breaking news with speed and accuracy• Built good relationships with PR representatives• Reported on press trips and product launches• Represented the magazine at shows such as ISPO, Outdoor and Keswick Mountain Festival• Wrote long-form buying guides and inspirational travel articles• Created and maintained content calendars for print and online• Led the direction of all digital output, including social media and the website• Conceptualised and delivered multi-channel campaigns for a range of clients, including international brands and tourist boards• Interviewed high-profile figures such as Ben Fogle, Bear Grylls and Mark Beaumont• Commissioned, sub-edited and proofread the entire contents of the magazine• Used tools such as Google Search Console and Crowdtangle to inform SEO and social strategies• Commissioned and directed photographers on shootsSince leaving Adventure Travel it has rebranded as Wired For Adventure.

After three months as an editorial assistant I was promoted to online editor of Adventure Bike Rider and Adventure Travel, and became responsible for all digital output. This included the website and all social media channels.Duties:• Sourced, wrote and uploaded news, reviews and features to both websites on a daily basis• Carried out keyword research and developed SEO and social media strategies to increase engagement and website traffic• Ensured each article followed SEO best practices and updated old articles to enhance search traffic• Built relationships with readers through social media, engaging with them and answering enquiries• Managed and developed both publications’ social media channels (inc Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), turning them into industry-leading pages

Launched and edited a student magazine with a print run of 1,000 copies alongside my studies for six issues. Oversaw full process from conception to print, including writing content, sourcing images, commissioning writers, photographers and illustrators, editing copy and building relationships with PRs. Most notable achievements include raising advertising revenue and interviewing high-profile artists such as The Vaccines, Bombay Bicycle Club and Bastille.
