I direct the investigations into bacterial mechanisms of resistance for surveillance as well as clinical trial support studies. With degrees in Pharmaceutical and a specialization in Clinical Laboratory Science (1998; Federal University of Paraná, Brazil), Masters in Infectious Disease (2001; Division of Infectious Disease; Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil), as well as a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree earned in 2005. During the Ph.D. program, I trained both at the Federal University of São Paulo (Division of Infectious Disease) and at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom (Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine). I was previously employed as a Research Scientist for Genaco Biomedical Products, Inc. (Qiagen subsidiary) where developed molecular diagnostic tests using a proprietary PCR-based multiplexing technology. I have authored or co-authored over 70 peer reviewed publications and 100 presentations at international meetings. I also serve as a member of the Microbial Drug Resistance Editorial Board and editor for International Journal of Bacteriology.
