I have worked for The English Football Association since August 2007. My current role as a National Development Manager is to support the strategic priorities at The FA focussing upon teachers and coaches working in an educational setting. Currently I manage the FA’s PE Unit, a team of eight Regional PE Coordinators who hold full time roles supporting teachers, trainee teachers and coaches who engage with both students and teachers in schools, linked to The Premier League’s Primary Stars Programme. In addition to this I manage a team of Regional Coach Development staff.I am a member of the National PE Expert Group which reviewed the National Curriculum for PE across key stages 1-4, supporting this and the development of resources for teachers and those in ITE. In 2014 I received a National Award by The Association for PE for Leadership & Influence linked to my work within the Education sector in England.In 2019 I was elected as a non-executive board member for Active Lancashire. My role is to support the engagement of Education partners supporting the health and well being of residents of the County.Initially at The FA I was a Regional Coach Development Manager in the North West responsible for coach & player development in five Counties including Lancashire, with direct responsibility for the 5-11 age groups. The role included managing three teams of FA Skills Coaches, developing and delivering age appropriate courses, supporting a tutor workforce and supporting FA girls and Disability Centres of Excellence. In 2000 I was elected onto the Independent School’s FA Executive Committee of which I am still an active committee member. My previous role within ISFA was as National Coach for the Under 18 representative team leading training and player ID camps.For nine years I worked full time as a Physical Education teacher (5-18 years) in an Independent School, where I was Master in charge of football. I helped to guide the school 1st XI to two National finals (2001 & 2004) where the team were crowned National Champions and of whom three players gained Professional contracts in England. For eight years I worked part-time at Blackburn Rovers FC’s Academy working predominantly with the younger age groups as a coach helping develop players who had been given Academy contracts. Later I went on to work with players of all ages at the club looking to develop their individual needs and analyse players using a player centred approach – putting the learner (the player) at the centre of learning.Roger.Davies@TheFA.com
