I am a full member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA). In 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012 I had paintings chosen for the national exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours at the Mall Galleries in London. I won the Judd Medical Prize in the 2010 RBSA Open Prize Exhibition.I use watercolour and mixed media.. In 2015 I appeared on Sky TV’s Landscape Artist of the Year programme painting at Trelissick in Cornwall and I have won awards regularly at various exhibitions over the years.I am also a member of the Rugby and District Art Society and have won watercolour prizes in their exhibitions.ApproachI aim to express the underlying patterns in the landscape generated by my interest in geology and geography, but the interpretations are not intended to be fully representational. I find particularly interesting the landscapes in areas of transition between lowland and upland, and sea and land, with features such as hill farms marking past and present human activity,field patterns and rock outcrops. My interpretation is based on a feeling for a landscape rather than what is seen, its past heritage and land uses, and I aim to abstract the structure of the land set within an impressionistic background. Subjects depict my local area of Northamptonshire and the Midlands, but also extend to all parts of England and Wales.I exhibit my work in several art galleries in the Midlands, undertake commissions and demonstrations to art groups.
