For most of my career, I worked as a Business Analyst, writing technical documents, especially software requirements, mainly at leading telecom companies. I now leverage these many years of valuable experience to deliver correct, clear, and on-time software documentation. Also, I use this experience to excel at getting appropriate input from SMEs, especially software developers, conducting document reviews, and contributing to co-workers’ deliverables. In March 2020, I further improved my technical writing skills by completing a graduate certificate focused on software documentation. More recently, in March 2021, I completed a graduate-level technical editing class. My portfolio is at www.ronsantos.net (hosted on AWS), and I have skills in the following areas: • Technical Writing and Editing • Technical and User Documentation • XML, DITA, and Structured Documentation • MadCap Flare • Successful RFP Responses • Agile Scrum Processes and Jira • Information Technology • Amazon Web Services (AWS) • Telecom Networks • DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (IPAM)

Murray Hill, Nj
Wrote user stories and requirements for multiple components and enhancements in VitalQIP, including all stories and requirements for complex Analytics and Reporting feature. Led two teams that evaluated customer enhancement requests. Also, responded to RFPs, contributed to and later managed product roadmap, provided sales support and customer demos, and did performance and capacity benchmark testing.Note that VitalQIP was an IP Address Management system that configured and managed DNS and DHCP servers. Also, Analytics and Reporting feature involved collecting large amounts of traffic data from DNS and DHCP servers, storing it in Elasticsearch, and issuing security alerts to help mitigate attacks based on analysis and detection of threats in DNS data.Selected accomplishments:• Contributed to and eventually managed roadmap for VitalQIP, which had annual sales of about $14M. Got input from sales, development, technical support, and others, did competitive analysis, considered customer enhancement requests, and created revenue forecasts. Prioritized features to maximize revenue and minimize customer losses given limited product investment.• Performed competitive analysis on Analytics and Reporting feature and balanced user automation needs with limited development resources, delivering feature preconfigured to detect the most security threats as thoroughly as possible and contain the most useful reports.• Improved implementation of user stories and requirements, including increasing user-friendliness and reducing errors, by providing input to developers during Agile Sprint reviews of early software versions.• Guided team through negotiations to consensus on multiple complicated and sometimes controversial issues, which cost-effectively improved multiple aspects of new software and helped team stay on schedule.
Murray Hill, Nj
Contributed initially as VitalQIP Business Analyst and then, starting in Jan. 2008, as combined VitalQIP Business Analyst and Product Manager. (Note this role continued as described above after Nokia bought Alcatel-Lucent in Jan. 2016.) Contributions included writing all requirements for DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) feature, VitalQIP’s most complicated feature.Selected accomplishments:• Led two cross-functional teams that evaluated and prioritized about 1,977 VitalQIP customer enhancement requests over eight years. Collaborated as part of Product Management group to determine small subset for funding and roadmap inclusion, attracting new customers and maximizing retention of existing customers.• Provided quick, correct, and appealing responses to requirements in parts of over 20 winning RFP responses over seven years through good understanding of needs of customers, primarily telecom service providers. RFP parts were on or related to DNS (including ENUM), DHCP, and IP address management.• Increased ease of use of DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) feature by skillfully simplifying and automating functionality in requirements while staying within limits of available development staff.• Helped team meet aggressive completion date of DNSSEC feature by contributing user manual sections, enabling overloaded technical writers to complete quality documentation on time.• Led development and delivery of DNSSEC training for technical support, professional services, and sales, and subsequently further shared acquired DNSSEC expertise, improving productivity.
Holmdel, Nj
Contributed in the following four Business Analyst (Systems Engineer) positions. Note that Lucent (which spun off from AT&T in 1996) produced telecom hardware and software, and Alcatel and Lucent merged in Dec. 2006.• VitalQIP Business Analyst from Oct. 2004 to Nov. 2006: Wrote requirements for VitalQIP. Note this job continued at Alcatel-Lucent and then Nokia as described above.• Navis Resource Manager (NRM) Business Analyst from Oct. 2003 to Sept. 2004: Wrote requirements for NRM inventory system.• Navis Wireless Services Activation Manager (WSAM) Business Analyst from May 2001 to Sept. 2003: Wrote requirements for WSAM subscriber provisioning system, which Sprint and others used.• ACTIVIEW Business Analyst from Oct. 1998 to Apr. 2001: Wrote requirements for ACTIVIEW wireline provisioning system, which Verizon used.
