We work hard to create a school informed by a real love of learning and our students. It's all about being professional and passionate about the privilege we've been granted of educating our students to their highest educational, artistic, personal, economic, and world citizen potential.An essential aspect of my job is to expedite my staff's best performance as professional educators. They count on me to support, challenge, guide and grow right along with them. Our staff is held to shared standards of professional conduct, responsibility and self-care. I look for the good to celebrate, develop and strengthen to best serve our students from a place of fundamental integrity and dedication. I don't ask anyone to do more for TAPCo than I ask of myself in fostering high expectations and student achievement.I am very interested in the optimal use of multipurpose learning spaces such as our school community’s rooftop garden outdoor soundstage, the first of its kind in New York City. My hobbies include running in races to raise money for our school and playing clarinet with my chamber music trio mates Magee Hickey (flute) and Peter Shaw (piano).

• Crafted and implemented policies that resulted in significant gains in qualitative and quantitative dimensions (e.g. one category up in our Quality Review, Environmental Survey went from all red to all green, Superintendent suspension rate decreased 76%, increases in credit accumulation and Regents’ pass rates, made AYP in ELA and Math)• Instituted strategy of school improvement planning cycle: review student achievement data; design/redesign curriculum; implement, train, support; evaluate student achievement; refined implementation with continued training, and; evaluate student achievement results• Collaboratively analyzed data with Principal, cabinet, School Leadership Team, through faculty conference, and extensive professional development meetings resulting in school-wide initiatives around a new mission/vision centered on student voice in academics, community, and self-advocacy • Established school-wide use of the online Atlas-Rubicon curriculum mapping platform and provided teachers with extensive training and support • Led contiguous data gathering and analysis effort from multiple sources (Skedula, Student Work, Regents, Acuity, Performance Series, ARIS, Quality Review, Progress Report, Teacher Teams, Inquiry Team, IEPs, and other sub group populations) informed the selection of key standards by teachers who then created units of instruction aimed at student learning targets (skills acquisition across the range of Bloom’s taxonomy and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge to increase rigor) through differentiated instruction • Helped develop new Mission/Vision Inspiring student voice in academics, community and self-advocacy that has real meaning evidenced by the sea change in school tone and climate• Trained all teachers in UbD based Atlas Rubicon curriculum mapping, aligning this effort with key standards (NYSS and CCSS) driven by analysis of multiple sources of student data

• Established proper Dean’s office infrastructure and protocols through computer and walkie-talkie procurement, assigned roles & responsibilities, and instituted DOE compliant OORS, SOHO, OSI, and suspension procedures• Formed school-wide Discipline/Positive Reinforcement Task Force comprised of representatives from School Administration, Dean’s Office, Children’s Aid Society Management, Guidance Department and UFT• Led mediation and post-suspension conferences with students, parents, and staff• Presented school safety goals, data and fielded questions at emergency Parent Community Safety Meeting• Instituted inaugural weekly meetings of Dean’s Office, Children’s Aid Society, and Guidance Department• Helped bring school fire drill evacuation time to below DOE guidelines, planned tabletop exercises, and live drills• Managed day-long emergency evacuation of over 600 students and staff to our campus• Coordinated with local NYPD precinct via data gathering, sharing, and analysis to successfully lower incidents of violence in proximity to our building• Worked with parent coordinator to establish parameters for parent volunteers• Administered nationally recognized CUBE Survey on School Climate to help devise data-driven strategies to increase school safety• Wrote and secured $30,000 ARRA grant to improve literacy for at-risk 10th and 11th graders• Supervised office staff, school aides, and wrote counseling memos and letters to file when necessary for all school staff around attendance, discipline and safety• Worked with SSAs to analyze lobby traffic patterns, hot spots, and secured building council consensus on shared equipment expense• Implemented self audit of school based on DOE’s Best Practices Standards for Creating & Sustaining a Safe & Supportive School• Decreased incidents of school vandalism through better student accountability procedures• Initiated and completed successful safety transfers for students when required

• Led post-incident evaluation processes designed to improve fire, police and EMS response. Recommended related changes to city disaster plans. • Served as Chair of Training for West Shore Regional HazMat Team.• Planned, developed and managed training exercises including mock incidents, identification of hazardous materials, victim rescue, containment, CPR/First Aid, and police, fire and EMS response procedures.• Taught classes in hazardous materials response to several hundred police, fire and EMS personnel throughout the greater Cleveland area.• Conducted fire safety presentations at various Cleveland and Lakewood, OH public elementary schools.
