My first job in hospitality landed me at the Temperance Inn (Ambleside). A stunning location and a brand new hotel. I started as a Trainee manager however after a week I was promoted to an Assistant Manager roll and then, when the position became available, I challenged myself to take up the Deputy Manager position. Which i thoroughly enjoyed!

After working within hospital pharmacy’s for many years, and both in the UK and Australia, I decided to step up during Covid. A position became available to step up into a supervisory roll on a Monday and Friday (the two busiest days of the week) within the dispensary. At only 22 years old, this required me to quickly learn new supervisory skills, that I believe have helped me to be more confident in my current management position.

During my working holiday visa in Australia, I was struggling to find work in Sydney. The opportunity arose to work for Earth Impact, where my job was to attempted to sign people up to sponsor a child for $50 Aus a month. Although my stint at this company was short. I learnt some very valuable lessons within sales, I gained confidence with customer interaction and was able to build rapport with any individual who opened each door.

My first real job as a young 16 year old. However, as my first job, I couldn’t have picked a better place to learn and develop. Understanding that there was a patient at the end of the line meant that accuracy and attention to detail was important. Checking in medications correctly, focusing on correct strengths, quantities and expiry dates. In addition, having my own ward pharmacy cupboard to look after. Keeping this neat and tidy, which communicating effectively with pharmacists, nurses and pharmacy technicians. Having initiative to quickly know if a ward was waiting for a drug delivery and fast tracking that for the patients needs. Accurately assembling and checking drug boxes for wards to meet delivery times. All vital skills to rapidly learn as a 16 year old.
