Working alongside colleagues from 28 other nationalities our team of more than 100 observers were deployed to all 16 districts in Sierra Leone observing opening, voting, closing, ballot counting and tabulation of election results. As a short-term observer (STO) my focus was on observing the immediate election environment, the implementation of voting and counting procedures and the tabulation and publication of results. As an STO I used forms, developed by the Core Team as the basis for conducting my observations in polling stations and tabulation centres on Election Day. When I arrived in country, I was briefed by the Core Team on the electoral and political context, as well as in how to understand and fill out the forms. When I arrived in my area of responsibility, I also received a briefing from my long-term observer team on the local situation, as well as advice on devising their plan for Election Day for observing, and the consolidation and transmission of the forms.

Volunteering in Ireland: I supported the 3,000+ Dublin employees to volunteer over 300,000 hours in my six years, with a focus on high impact, skill based volunteering. I managed all major employee communications & PR on volunteering, implement our global volunteer campaigns & lead relationships with multiple national & international charities.Granting: From my initial contact, relationship building & granting discussions, the first $1m Salesforce grant outside of the US, was granted to an Irish education charity, Educate Together. I engaged with senior Irish leadership, carried out numerous site visits & supported in the grant reviewing process.Global Volunteering: In 2020 & 2021, I co-led Global Volunteer Month, Salesforce’s month long push for extra volunteering from our global 80,000+ employees. The United Nations Development Programme Sierra Leone is focused on supporting the national media sector to fortify the democratic process. As the ebola crisis worsened our focus shifted to improve the country’s ebola response. Ebola response1. Radio sensitisation: I produced a concept note on ebola sensitisation radio and with media partners I managed to ensure that a successful radio programme was altered and extended to focus on ebola issues, which was aired daily on 55 radio stations across the country.2. Educational Radio: I conceived the idea of educational radio for school age children, while ebola had shut all schools. I produced a concept note, engaged the Ministry of Education, UNICEF & other partners to produce daily radio education programmes which are aired on 55 national radio stations.3. Infrastructure project: I secured funding & managed the procurement and installation of a nationwide infrastructure project linking up radio stations in the country.4. Communications Officer: I am working on external communications during the crisis, documenting our ebola response for our website and our social media. I write articles, take photographs and organise press conferences regularly. Media Development Work1. I produced and launched the first National Media Development Strategy of Sierra Leone with commitment from government, media and other stakeholders.2. I managed four Media Volunteers. placing these university graduates in various media institutions and mentoring, supervising and supporting them in their weekly tasks.3. I developed annual work plans, provided administrative support for the implementation of the activities as set out in the annual work plans and researched and advised on issues related to media development. 4. I managed four Media consultants. I worked with & supervised these experts on projects including university curriculum review, media law reform and improving governance and financial accountability of media organisations.

MSF is carrying out a clinical trial for drug resistant tuberculosis in South Africa, Uzbekistan and Swaziland. Based in London my role was to provide an efficient and responsive communication, organisational and logistical service to the team.1. I led development of an internal communications plan for the clinical trial.2. I worked in close collaboration with the trial communications lead in developing & maintaining a trial mini site, and producing MSF internal updates.3. I collected, filed & maintained accurate records of all documents & implemented a version controlled document management system. 4. I supported the Clinical Trial Manager, the Laboratory specialist & the Clinical Trial Pharmacist in orders & shipments of study materials & equipment to sites.

MSF Ireland is the Irish office of the Nobel Peace prize winning medical, humanitarian NGO. For two years I worked on communications and fundraising initiatives as part of a small 4-person office team.1. I did daily media reviews, monitored coverage & maintained accurate hard & soft copy files along with managing www.msf.ie & all our social media platforms. 2. I briefed and debriefed Irish overseas volunteers and wrote, edit and pitched these interviews and other press releases to radio, print and online media.3. I developed media, publicity and fundraising strategies with other staff members around specific MSF communication packages, events or issues.4. I produced our quarterly magazine, Dispatches.5. I produced weekly Google analytics reports.6. I wrote reports and inputted into policy submissions to government.

The World’s Best News is a newspaper and campaign designed to combat the consistent negative stream of news about developing nations and instead provide a more balanced, positive view of the developing world and its citizens. Based on a successful Danish model, along with my co-founder Sean O'Connell, we established and launched the initiative in Ireland. We successfully mobilized support from all 44 Dóchas member organisations, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, UCDVO and Comhlamh.2. I led the fundraising campaign which raised thousands of euro for production and distribution costs.3. I identified & edited content for the newspaper and its social media platforms.

Wave Change, run by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, supports young high potential social actors, social entrepreneurs and change makers to act on their vision for change for Ireland through an intensive 10 month support and investment programme. I was selected as a Wave Change Executive for 2013 for The World's Best News, my initiative to increase awareness in Ireland of the positive achievements of developing countries in recent decades.

UCD Volunteers Overseas is a Dublin based charity with projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua, Tanzania and South Africa, which works alongside local communities and NGOs in carrying out small-scale development projects, which respond to local needs. UCDVO sends over 100 volunteers overseas annually.1. With my fellow board members we decided on which projects the organisation should undertake and where and how we should spend our budget most efficiently. I also undertook research projects on this topic.2. I worked with 3 other selected board members to produce a 5 year strategic plan for the organisation, along with a timetabled action plan for how the strategies would be achieved.3. I produced & implemented fundraising and communications strategies with board members.

Vijayawada Area, India

As Project Leader for the 2012 South India group I led a group of 19 volunteers (students and graduates) working alongside local NGOs on physiotherapy, educational and sports projects for a month, while managing a €40,000 budget.I also undertook a pre-departure planning trip in order to make the necessary arrangements for the group's arrival. In addition I worked throughout 2012 with the group on pre-departure training workshops.

Dóchas is the association of Irish Non-Governmental Development Organisations. It has over 40 members which include Concern Worldwide, Oxfam Ireland and the Irish Red Cross. Dóchas provides a forum for consultation and co-operation between its members and helps them speak with a single voice on development issues.1. Coordinating the actions of over 70 NGOs to ensure that the Irish government commits to the UN target of 0.7% GNI for Official Development Assistance by 2015.2. Monitoring the aid policies of all 166 elected members of Dáil Éireann (Irish Government) and coordinating lobbying strategies for these politicians.3. Meeting with campaign member organisations, organising events, creating media packages for members and monitoring relevant media coverage.4. Identifying the most relevant and important pieces of information to the campaign in reports and studies on development issues.

I produced, wrote, edited and promoted the Sean 2012 campaign which saw over 3,000 emails sent to TD's in 3 days encouraging an increase in Ireland's overseas aid budget. The video was curator's choice on Storyful.com, the most commented story on Broadsheet.ie, it was featured on the Huffington Post, there was a live radio interview on Phantom 105.2 fm and we had tweets of support from Concern, Trocaire, VSO Ireland, Dochas, Comhlámh and 2fm DJ Rick O'Shea. Somoto, Nicaragua

1. I used both Spanish and English in helping to organise and construct a classroom and other educational facilities in Nicaragua, in partnership with the Nicaraguan NGO INPRHU. 2. I personally raised over €3,000 for the charity through individual fundraising prior to departure.3. I also fundraised as part of a team that rose over €30,000 though various activities from street collecting to organising large scale functions.4. I worked on site in Nicaragua as a construction worker, translator and communicator between the Irish and Nicaraguan workers.5. I cared for and taught mentally and physically disabled children and underprivileged children in the town of Somoto, Nicaragua.

BBC Rome Bureau is the BBC office for Italy and other Mediterranean countries, which carries out news research and production for radio, television and internet. The bureau employs 7 people and is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation.1. I conducted radio and television interviews for BBC World Business Report in both English and Italian in Rome, Naples and Siena. 2. I was lead researcher on numerous stories and assistant script writer. 3. I was assistant producer on film and radio production.4. I acted as translator and communicator for Senior Correspondants in interviews and in letter writing.5. I was in charge of general office administration.
