Principle Investigator: Dr. James Jester, Department of Biomedical Engineering • Prepped cornea samples and scanned samples operating Chameleon diode laser with Second Harmonic Optical (SHO) imaging. Then marked collagen fiber branching on reconstructed 3D mosaics of the sectioned samples• Processed 250,000+ data points by filtering false positives and noise, setting thresholds obtained from manually measuring collagen fiber angles, and using software with specialized algorithms to determine statistical significance of fiber angle distribution within anterior corneal stroma• Quantitatively obtained collagen fiber data to better understand healthy human corneas and provided results with our collaborators in Stanford University to create a cornea simulation Principle Investigator: Dr. Alyssa Brewer, Department of Cognitive Sciences • Involved in visual working memory experimentations, data analysis, and literary research• Awarded $4,250 for research projects and presented findings at UC Irvine Undergraduate Research Symposium • Utilized brain segmenting software, mrGray, to transform MRI scans into 3D brain reconstructions• Assisted in creating a curriculum introducing Neuroscience and various neurological disorders to a non-profit organization (2011-2012)
