Digital Sales Manager: Royle ran the digital department at Alpha Broadcasting in Portland, OR. Alpha owns six radio stations: KINK, KUPL, KXL, Live 95.5, 750 the Game and Freedom 970 AM. He was responsible for all digital revenue, campaign implementation and product development. Royle directly supervised webmasters, digital traffic and project coordinators, and dedicated online account executives. As a sales manager, also he worked closely with Alpha’s entire sales team, developing integrated marketing campaigns with both terrestrial and digital elements. Digital products at Alpha include streaming audio spots, email advertising, text messaging, mobile advertising, video pre-roll, banner advertising and social media. Royle increased digital sales by 37% in his first two years at Alpha.

Vice President Client Services: Formic Media is the small to mid-size business arm of Anvil Media, one of Portland’s leading search engine and social media marketing firms. As consultants, Formic researches and implements search engine marketing plans, raises organic listing positions, and increases ROI for pay-per-click search campaigns. Social media marketing and reputation management are also offered. Formic was a beginning start-up when Royle joined the company, and he was responsible for all sales and client services.

Corporate Director of Digital Sales, June 2007 – October 2008: Royle managed the digital sales for 116 radio stations in 23 markets, including Boston, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Sacramento, New Orleans, Buffalo and Kansas City. Hiring, training and supervising digital sales managers in Entercom markets were his first priorities. Developing new digital sales assets, including pricing, sales strategies and implementation, were additional responsibilities. He regularly visited station clusters across the country, training sales staffs and making client sales calls. Digital sales increased 300% while he worked for Entercom corporate.

Entercom Portland hired Royle to monetize radio’s new internet advertising assets, including banners ads, streaming spots, video pre-roll and email communications. Working with the cluster’s radio sales staff and clients, he increased monthly revenue from negligible dollars upwards to $60,000 per month. Entercom promoted him from the Portland station cluster to corporation-wide management.

Principal: As a small business consultant, Royle sold and managed hundreds of advertising and marketing projects, combining tradition print media with online marketing into integrated campaigns. Web site design, search engine marketing, e-mail messaging and direct mail were Pin Point’s primary promotional tools. Royle sold and all managed the jobs, then out-sourced most design and programming aspects to freelancers. Pin Point Marketing was based in Seattle and Bellingham, WA with clients throughout the United States. The jewelry industry marketing was a particularly strong niche for Pin Point, both in publishing and high-end retail.

Account Executive: As a full-time sales professional, Royle’s primary responsibility was to up-sell “print and deliver” projects to existing Seattle Times advertising clients, as well as develop new customers. He managed projects for Seattle Times advertising marketing, circulation and total market coverage departments. Rotary Offset, a Seattle Times subsidiary, is one of the largest printing and mailing facilities in Washington. He is savvy with web and sheet-fed printing, as well as direct mail.

Director of Sales & Marketing: Royle managed the sales and marketing department for this Seattle-based multilingual communications firm. Documents International specialized in translation, foreign-language typesetting, document design for offshore markets and software localization. Software companies and multinational corporations hired Documents International to translate and produce catalogs, software, online help, instruction manuals, packaging, brochures, print advertisements and Websites. Understanding sophisticated software development technology and print image-setting systems were required. Clients included Intel, Microsoft, Bank of America, WRQ, Wieden & Kennedy (Nike), the City of Seattle, and many others. Royle was originally hired as a sales representative when the company was a first year start-up.

Full time paid internship writing copy (newsletters, press releases, direct mail) and working on dynamic public relations campaigns for the recycling programs.
