Constitution Surgical Center East is a newly constructed state-of-the-art multispecialty Ambulatory Surgical Center specializing in ophthalmology, orthopedics, urology, and pain management. We have 4 operating rooms, an on-site sterile processing department, 2 treatment rooms, and we are a MAKO robotic orthopedic center for outpatient total joints.

I was chosen to join the Expert Content Committee for Orthopedic Certification (ECC-OC) as part of the Governing Unit for AAAHC.

I was chosen to represent the members of Connecticut Association of Ambulatory Surgical Centers as a Board Member of the Patient Safety Organization. We meet semi-annually to discuss ambulatory surgical center compliance with infection control, pharmaceutical, quality control, and fire and life safety guidelines and standards. We report and work directly with representatives from the Connecticut Department of Public Health to ensure the highest level of safety is guaranteed to patients who seek treatment at Connecticut's ambulatory surgical centers.

Taylored Training was established in 2016 to provide clinical and safety training to medical, non-medical, and military personnel. Certification programs include: Basic Life Support, First-Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated Electronic Defibrillation. Additional services offered are: Home and child safety courses and Infection Control consultations.

As Director, I managed all clinical staff and contracted service providers, did all materials management, quality control & compliance responsibilities, Fire & Life Safety protocols, infection control, biomedical device management, tier one IT work, budget management, staffing, contract negotiations, and directly oversaw all state, federal, and national inspections and/or accreditation visits. I provided hands-on nursing based on facility needs in the pre-operative and post-operative areas. I would also step in and provide necessary coverage as a GI Technician assisting the providers and/or performing HLD reprocessing of the video endoscopes.

In 2014, I established Coastal Digestive as a clinical observation facility with Norwich Technical Trade School's nursing program, it was reported to have been the student's favorite clinical experience. We were highly successful in exceeding the program's mission to educate student nurses in their quest to become future caregivers. Sadly my association with the school ended January 1, 2017, when the school closed its doors due to state budget cuts.

As charge nurse and a critical care trained RN, I was responsible for properly managing staffing for 3 different shifts of nursing professionals and overseeing the general care of the patients within the 10 bed Cardiac ICU. I was instrumental in developing and establishing a Rapid Response nurse-driven medical team within the hospital. I was the lead clinical resource specialist for the CCU & ICU providing emergent care to hospitalized patients experiencing acute changes in medical condition. I routinely managed the care for Cardiac Intensive Care patients in multi-system organ failure. I would care for and manage multiple ventilator dependent patients requiring several hemodynamic supporting intravenous drips. I cared for patients on intra-aortic balloon pump therapy following cardiac stenting and acute MI’s. I was skilled in CAPD exchange, assisting with bedside percutaneous insertion of pacemakers, and end-of-life Hospice care.

As Medical Director for the New London site, I was responsible for overseeing the curriculum and skills lab for the Medical Assistant training program. I taught health science classes, instructed all laboratory skill classes, and managed the student’s externship programs. I achieved a 98% program graduation rate and a 94% pass rate of my students on the State Phlebotomy certification exam. I was successful in establishing the Navy Health Center as an externship site for Sawyer Medical Assistant students and doubled the number of participating medical offices in accepting program graduates.

Directly assisted gastroenterologists in the performance of upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. Performed HLD practices in the reprocessing of video endoscopes. Maintained inventory and supply needs for the department.

Completed my nurse internship and perioperative 101 training to become a circulating nurse in the operating room.

I was part of a four-person anesthesia support team for ten operating rooms and two procedure rooms. This included managing supply inventory levels, recalibration of anesthesia machines, and assisting the medical nursing team as needed.
