About Ruben Vargas

I feel a commitment to be part of community development in those populations at need and I am passionate about social justice, politics and issues that shape our environment everyday. My years of experience in staffing agencies, retail and with non-profit organizations have given me the tools required to be successful in any position offered within the field. As a staffing specialist I worked closely with multiple human resources departments as well as potential employees to find employment opportunities for Los Angeles residents including general labor and administrative jobs. Other duties required me to coordinate efforts to recruit, train, counsel and hire new employees in a fast paced atmosphere. I worked closely with workers compensation claims, unemployment benefits and conflict management in order to meet deadlines. In the past 10 years I have also developed strong communication and team leadership skills that have given me the confidence to battle any task at hand. I am interested in outreach and community based development programs. I am also drawn by the aspects of public relations and community organizing in minority communities, passions that give me a drive to work on projects that can benefit our future. Additionally, I am bilingual (English and Spanish) and hold my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis on Urban Life and the Environment, from California State University - Los AngelesSpecialties: Spanish speaker/translator, case management, non-profit programs, mental health, government funded projects
