About Ruth Bartlett

After working as a qualified mental health nurse for eight years, I gained a sociology PhD and have worked in the Higher Education sector for over fifteen years. I have secured and led several funded research projects, published over 40 peer reviewed articles and three books, all in the area of health sociology and ageing, specifically dementia studies. I am co-editor of the journal Dementia: International Journal of Social Research and Practice. I have expertise in using experimental research methods and run workshops and established a Facebook group on advancing diary methods. I am regularly invited to speak at academic events in the UK and overseas, including Canada and Sweden, and I have led and worked with international teams on research publications and bids. I have planned and led the delivery of innovative courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, as well as workshops for school children and health care professionals, including one in Australia. My work with Prof O’Conner (University of British Columbia) on using a citizenship lens is widely cited and has inspired individuals and organisations to think differently about people with dementia.
