About Ruth Sims
Having worked as a research associate from 1999 until 2013, I have built my experience and reputation in the area of ergonomics, specifically design for all and usability for older and/or physically impaired people. I have considerable experience and expertise in all aspects of running user trials, from ethical considerations, protocol development, organising and running trials, questionnaire and interview design, collecting anthropometry, joint constraints, reach range data, 3D body scanning, behavioural and postural data, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis. During my research career I also taught undergraduate students on psychology and ergonomics, perception and the cognitive processes determining how people interact with products and environments. Since 2013 I have been a senior lecturer and I now develop, lead, and contribute to programmes and modules both online (MSc ergonomics/human factors), on-campus (undergraduate psychology), and blended (MSc behaviour change). Key areas include social psychology, student research, developmental psychology, Design for All/Inclusive design/Universal design, ageing and disability, psychological aspects of ergonomics and design.
