About Ruth Smyth

I like to try and understand people and groups, what makes them tick and how we can work together to make the world a better place. I love working in the charity sector where I get to pursue these interests and feel like I'm working towards big, inspiring goals.I am a director of BoldLight, an agency specialising in charity communications, insight and digital design. We work with a range of clients across the Charity sector to help them to raise more money and fulfil their aims. I especially enjoy projects where I get to listen to people using charity services or charity supporters and then convey their experiences back to the charity.I am also a founding member of Nerdfest, a festival of Insight training aimed at people using and producing insight in the charity sector. I run several courses including 'Introduction to Insight' and 'Communicating Insight'.Prior to BoldLight I managed a great Insight team at the RSPB and with them delivered brand research, audience segmentation and all kinds of analysis including social media analysis, market and competitor reviews and LOTS of supporter analysis!I'm a member of the British Psychological Society, the Market Research Society and a part of the Critical Fundraising Network and council member at the Fundraising thinktank Rogare. I am also Vice-Chair on the committee for the Insight in Fundraising Special Interest Group at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
