Active Research Methods Lab

- Co-organized a large qualitative research project contracted by the Department of Student Success at the University of Akron for the Active Research Methods Lab. - Trained a team of 15 graduate and undergraduate students in story circle and interview techniques.- Recruited 162 participants, analyzed data, wrote an executive summary of the overarching themes, and presented the results to advising management.- Study results were published in the NACADA Journal, the authority on academic advising in higher education.

Psychology Department

As Head TA my main responsibility is to support the Faculty Introduction to Psychology Coordinator and graduate teaching assistants. - Set up Springboard courses for approximately 40 sections of Introduction to Psychology per semester. - Completed administrative responsibilities such as distributing classroom materials and updating course material as needed. - Assisted in the development and implementation of study sessions to support students enrolled in Intro to Psychology.- Improved and developed new training materials for first year teaching assistants; materials incorporated DEI related content.- Conducted an internal ethnographic study to understand the needs of the 17 first-year graduate teaching assistants. Findings and recommendations were presented to the faculty coordinator; report resulted in adjustments in the graduate teaching assistant training and support.- Created a Head TA Handbook and trained the incoming Head TA before moving to a new assistantship position.

- Developed and facilitated educational talks for groups of 5-30 older adults living in three Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority locations.- Worked with an interdisciplinary team of students and professionals in Nutrition, Nursing, and Exercise Science. - Activities and discussions covered topics such as: depression, stress, brain and cognitive health, fall prevention, dementia, caregiving, and social support.- Developed training materials to assist with new volunteer onboarding process. DEI-focused materials were designed to orient student presenters to the unique needs of the community we worked with (e.g., older adults, low income, living with disabilities and chronic illnesses).- Conducted in-depth interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic field notes over the course of two years to understand the impact of volunteering on students' academic and professional development.- Shared study results with program coordinator to improve training for future student volunteers.

As a graduate assistant for the Institute for Lifespan Development and Gerontology I fulfilled multiple roles.
