I have recently (July 2023) retired from the role of Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Plymouth. In this role I was responsible for the strategic development of the Faculty's academic portfolio alongside ensuring academic quality and standards, effective use of resources and an excellent student experience. I have 25+ years experience in teaching and management in higher education, in environmental and geosciences, and in a variety of roles, including Deputy Head of School, Associate Head for both discipline area and for School-wide Teaching and Learning. From 2005-2010 I led one of the Centres for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Plymouth University, in experiential learning in environmental and biological sciences. I chaired the Project Steering Group for UTC (University Technical College) Plymouth on behalf of the University, which established the UTC and was the initial Chair of Governors. More recently, from 2021-23 I have led the academic development and governance of degree and higher apprenticeship provision at the University of Plymouth, culminating in Ofsted judgments of 'Good' in all categories in May 2023,
