Responsible for designing and implementing operational systems that will enable the Sortition Foundation to run effectively and in a way that aligns with our cooperative ethos and core values. It is about designing and building the operational infrastructure that can support our most developed programme of work in the UK, followed by our growing portfolio in Australia and our newly launched Hungarian company, which will be the operational base for our emerging EU work.The Sortition Foundation is a not-for-profit company that wants to see democracy done differently. We have a successful track record of delivering recruitment services for citizens’ assemblies in the UK, Australia, and around the world. We are also actively campaigning for the institutionalisation of these assemblies at local and regional/national level in the UK and hope to extend this campaign work elsewhere. Such expertise is invaluable help to SMEs constrained only by their lack of resources. Who is it for?SMILE is for London micro, small and medium-sized businesses experiencing “growing pains” due to the lack of specific managerial expertise as needed in development phases. The enterprises would have already passed their start-up phase and are now experiencing managerial challenges that are holding back the potential to grow significantly. The Benefits of SMILEFor those SMEs who have limited access to skills and resources to develop business opportunities or overcome hurdles, SMILE will transfer outstanding skills, social and professional networks, research and knowledge that will enable them to compete in national and global markets. The mentor/management interim will enable current SME management to take the company further. Fostered relations with alumni through a communications programme, began implementing a careers and placement programme between alumni and students, managed and directed groups of student callers and events assistants, organised and supported alumni-specific events, and led the redesign and redevelopment of the alumni website.Marketing and Communications – directed the web team to update the alumni website daily and weekly, produced and edited bimonthly e-newsletters to send to over 20,000 recipients and analysed reports after each mailing, and encouraged alumni interaction through discussions on social and professional networking sites.Staff Management – managed and supervised groups of students ranging from 3 events assistants to 35 student callers at a time.Event Management – organised events (strategy, planning, logistics and marketing) such as a student-alumni networking MBA evening and alumni comedy nights, and supported (logistics, marketing, and providing relevant information and data) organisation of others’ events such as university graduation ceremonies and class reunions.Project ManagementWebsite redevelopment project – took over the project lead at its critical final stages and closely worked with the web team to deliver copy, images and ideas to re-design and launch the alumni website under tight deadlines.Careers – worked together with the university’s central Careers office to build a system to coordinate scattered efforts throughout the university and to connect alumni offering their support (such as careers advice) with student needs.

With the two partners, implemented and delivered targets in all areas from marketing, sales, advertising, on-site event coordination and all other aspects with their self-created and self-produced consumer food festival (the largest of its kind in all of Canada), EAT! Vancouver, The Everything Food + Cooking Festival.
