This year almost 400 students participated in it, from schools all across Leinster (this was the highest engagement the competition has seen to date).As one of the two convenors my role involved running the competition, setting motions and facilitating this space for students to grow their confidence and debating capabilities. Running the competition involved working closely with the committees of the UCD Law Society and UCD Literary and Historical Society, UCD Estates Services. This year we reduced the registration fee for DEIS schools to widen participation of students from all backgrounds, re introduced a competition handbook and gave dates of rounds in advance to allow teachers to plan the schedule around their students. I was awarded the Gold Medal for Oratory at the end of the academic year, in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the society. -
