Scan Eagle Block 2.0 Project:I worked with a small team to deliver an unmanned aircraft system. I delivered board layer abstraction software targeting an Intel Atom based ComE module, hardware in the loop simulator build out, aircraft system integration, distributed I/O system, and other various nuts and bolts for the project.Our team successfully delivered software and hardware that culminated in the successful first flight of the prototype aircraft system. This success enabled further spiral developments for the system.Multicore processor and hypervisor abstraction research project:I researched the capabilities and potential for using a multicore Intel Atom processor and a Type 1 hypervisor to provide secure and robust virtual machine environments to reduce hardware costs and system complexity for unmanned systems. The goal of the research was to determine if Flight Management Computers and Payload Management Computers could be condensed into a single hardware set and utilize the system architecture and virtualization technology to maintain safety, data and system integrity, and reduce cost. This project culminated in a demonstration of the virtualized partitions running on target hardware to outline the capabilities and technical limitations of the selected hardware/software combination.
