Ryan has served as the Sustainability Manager for Pierce County since 2009. Ryan is responsible for implementing the Sustainability program for over 3,500 Pierce County employees, 72 buildings and over 1,050 vehicles. Ryan created the first ever 2010 Pierce County Sustainability Plan and the Sustainability 2020 plan in 2016. Most recently Ryan finalized the Sustainability 2030 GHG reduction plan that calls for a 45% reduction by 2030. Ryan is also the leader of the Solid Waste division and oversees 12 employees in solid waste, environmental education and sustainability. Ryan also works on natural resource issues including agriculture, community gardens, energy policy, land conservation and water quality.

Rainier Park expansion.- Successfully grew the Pierce County fundraising lunch from 115 people and 15k, to 650 people and 110k.
