Working for an internationally renowned company as a Sales Advisor. I am always working to enhance my 'people skills' as I think this is a key area that will help me succeed in my future career. During my five weeks work experience at Heartcare I was able to build upon the skills I have developed while studying for my degree at University. The placement allowed me to gain hands-on, real world experience in an exercise physiology based setting while shadowing an exercise physiologist. I was given responsibilities such as taking patient's blood pressure both manually and with an automatic machine, keeping individualised exercise programmes up-to-date with the correct session plans and weight exercises. I was also able to gain experience with ECG telemetry used to monitor heart rate and rhythm during patient's initial sessions at the centre. My confidence using work specific skills has improved while completing my placement and has given me an insight into how these skills can be applied in the field. As well as this I was able to spend some time working with specialists in the aftercare department who provide support for patient's who have completed their course but wish to continue exercising in a safe and controlled environment. Communication was key during my placement talking to patient's, explaining their exercise programmes and providing support when using the different exercise machines and free weights.
