I continued my role as a Motorsports Engineer in a part-time capacity, alongside completing my degree.

My role involved managing and supporting the projects and customers of Bosch Motorsport GB. This was across a range of motorsport disciples, chiefly WEC, F1 and BTCC. I supported the motorsport team with technical tasks such as system design, calibration and component development. I also advised customers how to use our products and performed engineering support in the form of calibration and diagnostics. Tasks included programming, setup and troubleshooting of Bosch devices. I communicated with both my team and the customer to achieve the most effective solution to every problem. The role also involved track side support which tested my skills in a high-pressure environment. I also maintained the company workshop and kept inventory control. Alongside technical tasks I supported sales activities.

As part of the Formula Renault team I was based in the UK but travelled to Austria, Hungary and Germany for race weekends. The team consisted of 16 people including mechanics, engineers, logistics and drivers. My responsibilities included; • replacing and maintaining driveshafts• inspecting parts such as gears and uprights between race weekends for cracks and imperfections• assisting gearbox changes• bodywork replacements• vinyl application and removal• communicating data to engineers.I was initially accepted on a four-week voluntary work experience but was quickly offered an extended placement as a number two mechanic. Through this opportunity I learnt to work with a high attention to detail as any mistakes could put driver safety at risk. The job involved many hours of overtime and required great commitment to the team. I shadowed an engineer and got an insight into to the use of Pi Toolbox to download data from the car and Pi Toolset for analysis. I learnt how set up was optimised though aerodynamics and mechanical balance to improve efficiency, meet the demands of the track and suit driver preference.
