Working as part of the side closures team I am responsible for developing design solutions for a number of components to ensure they meet agreed upon requirements from multiple internal and external customers. I work with upper level designers and engineers to develop my understanding of the manufacturability of parts and assemblies and participate in design reviews to receive direction and feedback on my projects. Primarily using NX, I create solid models of vehicle components, virtual layouts, execute engineering changes, and apply design methods and procedures within the vehicle assembly. Furthermore, I actively identify new areas to develop my skills and take advantage of courses learning opportunities within the organization.

As a member of the rear closures group within the Advanced Vehicle Development team I am tasked with the design and development of a number of complex parts to be used on General Motors branded vehicles. I work closely with front line supervisors to ensure that projects are completed by deadline and that they are kept informed of project statuses. Furthermore, I collaborate with engineers and designers from separate departments during design review meetings to asses the integration of parts into the upper vehicle assemblies, share ideas, and come up with solutions to design issues. I also participate in a number of training courses and facility tours to keep my knowledge of industry news and design software up to date.

Working within the defence industry, my excellent attention to detail skills as well as my ability to make critical decisions allowed me to be promoted to the Engineering Drawing Checker position. As a Checker I reviewed over 1000 engineering drawings to ensure that company, client, and ASME standards were met. Along with standards, I was also tasked with I assisted in the training of several new employees and with creating new checking procedures that improved office efficiency. I approved all completed drawings and engineering change orders and was responsible for uploading files to the TeamCenter server for final engineering approval by our client.As a Mechanical Designer I was responsible for creating new models and assemblies based off of instructions and sketches from engineers. I concurrently worked on multiple project programs, keeping office productivity above required levels to maximize workflow into and out of the office.

Working within the private suites of Oshawa's General Motors Centre arena, I was responsible for the timely and efficient delivery of food and beverages, as well as the clean up after each event. I was also required to keep the suite supply room and refrigerator organized and fully stocked.As the first suite runner of the facility, I was also tasked with training all incoming runners and was regularly asked for advice from new supervisors. Furthermore, I also worked closely with the kitchen staff to ensure there were no problems with food and all issues were dealt with quickly and with minimal delay to our guests.

I was elected into the Vice President Services position during ESSCO’s Annual General Meeting by representatives from the engineering societies of the universities across Ontario. As Vice President Services I was tasked with producing ideas and outlines for current and future projects for the organization to explore. These projects were designed to coordinate outreach, mentorship, and encouragement for students considering an education in engineering. During my term I was responsible for hiring project directors that would lead three successful initiatives while reporting back to me.For Math and Science Day at Canada’s Wonderland, I oversaw the selection of engineering student volunteers to help elementary and secondary students with problems dealing with the math and physics of theme park rides. During National Engineering Month I oversaw ten Ontario engineering schools come together to build a Rube Goldberg Machine connected to each other through the internet and end with lighting the CN Tower purple. During this event, each school was encouraged to invite local students to assist in construction, while engineering students provided mentorship. Furthermore, I ran a monthly newsletter profiling famous engineers and their accomplishments that was sent to high schools across the province.

I was elected into the Vice President External position by engineering students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. As Vice President External I was responsible for representing the UOIT engineering society to off campus organizations including ESSCO, the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students, and the Professional Engineers of Ontario.During my term, I represented UOIT at several provincial and national engineering conferences, as well as created and won the bid for UOIT to host ESSCO’s Annual General Meeting.
