Prior to entering the field of dispute resolution, Ryan worked as a lawyer for over 12 years representing both injured plaintiffs and insurance companies. Most recently, he was a partner at Oatley Vigmond Personal Injury Lawyers LLP.​His previous experience includes working with a respected Toronto insurance defence firm and in the legal department of a major Canadian property and casualty insurance company.​Ryan has been a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada since 2014. In 2017 he was ranked as “Repeatedly Recommended” in the field of “Personal Injury – Represents Plaintiffs” by the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and in 2016/17 he was ranked as one of the Best Lawyers in Canada™ in the field of Personal Injury Litigation. Ryan trained as a mediator and arbitrator as part of his LL.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School (2013) in Civil Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Ryan also holds a B.A. Honours from York University (2000) and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School (2003).

The mission of the Brain Injury Society of Toronto is to enhance the quality of life for people in the City of Toronto, living with the effects of acquired brain injury through education, awareness, support and advocacy. BIST was established in 2004 by a steering committee made up of stakeholders - including people with ABI, family members and people who work in ABI support and rehabilitation in collaboration with the Ontario Brain Injury Association. Today, BIST operates under the direction of a volunteer board of directors. BIST is a grassroots, member driven organization.

This work includes making claims on behalf of people injured in motorcycle, car, ATV, dirt bike and snowmobile accidents. It also includes acting for people with accident benefits claims, disability claims, doctor or hospital negligence lawsuits and injuries arising from slip and fall or trip and fall accidents. It also includes representing the families of people who have been killed due to negligence.
