I worked on the Design & Development team at LUMA. Our team shaped the company’s digital and physical products, connecting our in-person learning experiences to people’s everyday work. My main focus was to create LUMA Workplace, an online resource for helping people practice Human-Centered Design. We were a small and scrappy team, so my responsibilities were wide-ranging: product strategy, user research, ideation, wireframing, evaluative testing, interface design, content strategy, video production, writing, and more.

I was one of four Creative Directors at Markit Digital, formerly known as Wall Street On Demand until its 2010 acquisition by London-based Markit Group. We designed, developed, and hosted websites and apps for our clients in the financial services industry.I led a team of designers to solve problems for clients, ranging from fixing minor interface issues to reshaping how financial advisors might work with customers over the next decade. Our day-to-day work blurred into many facets of the design field—design research, interaction design, data visualization, visual design, or front-end development—without creating firm distinctions between roles. Designers on my team had daily contact with our clients, and helped shape, grow, and maintain long-term relationships.Within Markit, I helped size and price projects, develop new business, and advocate for human-centered design across a 500-person part of Markit based in Boulder. On our smaller 40-person design team, I contributed significantly to culture, methodology, training, and overall direction.

Co-taught the junior/senior-level Interaction Design class at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. Focused on teaching students a strong underlying perspective across all aspects of designing interactions. The students worked on one semester-long project from early definition and ideation, to introducing fidelity and formality into designs, and ending with the development and implementation of their ideas.

Developed branding and marketing materials for a wide range of clients including art museums, business-to-business firms, retail stores, developers, and large-scale real estate projects. Worked both alone and in teams to provide clients with coherent and consistent visual identity systems tailored to their specific needs.

Worked in a network security software company in the Customer Experience and Marketing groups. Developed a set of technical and conceptual diagrams, worked on marketing initiatives, and organized a brand style guide. Focused on the effective communication of complicated software products by making ideas clear.

Designed regional newspapers, books, brochures, and marketing collateral for state-level political campaigns, community groups, and non-profit companies. Worked directly with candidates and other contacts, developing key communication skills, design ability, and an understanding of production methods.
